Used Volvos available in Europe can offer interesting specifications, especially premium SUVs and estates. To compare a foreign offer properly with the French market, however, examine more than the vehicle's price.
Identify the engine and trim
Diesel, mild-hybrid petrol, plug-in hybrid or electric: the powertrain affects use, cost and the checks required. Trim also matters greatly. Inscription, R-Design, Plus Dark and other equipment levels can have significant differences.

Check the maintenance history
Ask for the available evidence: servicing, invoices, successive mileage readings and any major repairs. An advertised history should be cross-checked where supporting documents exist.
On a recent Volvo, driver assistance, electronic systems and comfort equipment also account for a significant share of the vehicle's value. Their presence and operation must be confirmed.
Examine safety and comfort equipment
A 360° camera, Pilot Assist, blind-spot monitoring, electric seats, heating, premium audio and a panoramic roof are common on some specifications. Check that the equipment shown in the listing is actually fitted to the vehicle.
Prepare the import
The seller's file and vehicle documents must be checked before payment. The French procedure then requires several supporting documents depending on the vehicle's situation.

Calculate the cost delivered to France
Never assess the foreign price in isolation. Include transport, checks, procedures and registration or tax costs applicable to the specific vehicle. To compare with France, use vehicles of similar year, mileage, engine and trim.
